How we feed the chickens for almost free

One of the flock

Feed prices keep climbing. So does everything else. We decided to stop treating store-bought feed as the only option and start using what we already have around the place.

Kitchen scraps, garden leftovers, weeds we pull, and the little bit of grain we can stretch all go into the flock now. It’s not fancy. It’s practical. The birds still get what they need, and our grocery and feed budget stops bleeding every week.

We filmed the whole system so you can see exactly what we do and what we avoid. Some of it is common sense. Some of it took trial and error after we lost birds earlier this year. We’re still learning, but the math is starting to work.

If you’re feeding a small flock and the feed store is eating your cash, this is the kind of shift that actually helps. Watch the video if you want the details, then come back and tell us what you’re already using.

Every bit we save on feed is money that stays in the land fund. Right now we’re at $365 of the $10,000 goal. Slow, but real.
