Cotton & Clay Farm and Homestead

We're the Youngbloods — a family building a self-reliant life on the land, one honest video at a time. Right now we're saving for the ten thousand dollars that stands between us and the property where our homestead truly begins.

The Journey

Rooted in land. Built on legacy.

The Youngbloods

Cotton & Clay Farm and Homestead documents our honest journey as a modern homesteading family — from property improvements and land development to the everyday wins and setbacks of rural living.

Whether it's a large-scale homestead build, a practical DIY project, or the everyday lessons of farm life, we're sharing the real process of creating a life rooted in faith, family, and purpose.

Right now that journey looks like living alongside my elderly father in Alabama, caring for him while we build toward something of our own — garden beds, compost systems, hugelkulture mounds, a working farm stand, and a flock of chickens and guinea fowl that keep us on our toes. Every one of those projects is a step toward the land where we'll start our own debt-free, off-grid homestead from the ground up.

We're not doing this because it's easy. We're doing it because we believe in growing our own food, reducing what we owe the world, and building something worth passing down to our kids.

If you love homesteading content and family-centered videos, we'd love to have you along for the ride.

We've been deep in tiny home research this week, thinking through what a build on the new land could actually look like. One important detail: this one won't be on wheels — we're looking at building it over a partial basement instead, which changes a lot about how we're planning the foundation and layout. We're putting together a full video on what we've found and where our heads are at right now — it goes up this Friday, August 7, so keep an eye out for it.

Meanwhile, over at my dad's place, we're in the big dig phase of a root cellar build — a three-part video series is coming on that one. Right now we're stuck waiting on the rain to let up before we can get back in the hole, but we'll pick it back up the second the ground dries out.

We're still working toward that last stretch of our $10,000 land goal — if you're able to help in any way, even a small amount, it means a lot and gets us that much closer. Honestly, if 10,000 people each gave just a dollar, this would be solved overnight. It really can be that simple.

On that note — we're launching something new on Buy Me a Coffee: a Homestead Partner subscription. A few times a year, partners get "Cards from the Farm" mailed straight from us — a real, physical card with a seasonal photo, a note about what's happening on the homestead, and sometimes a little extra tucked in depending on the time of year. Once a year we also surprise a handful of partners with something extra in their envelope. If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can check it out and join us over on Buy Me a Coffee.

We're currently scouting tiny home inspiration while pushing hard at the farm stand to raise the final steps toward our $10,000 goal — a 3-acre ridge-top piece of land we've got our eyes on. Every sale, every cup of coffee, every bit of progress counts as we work to secure the land and start our debt-free, off-grid house build from the ground up.
